Pre-Graduate Seminar

Pre-Graduate School Seminar

The Pre-Graduate School Seminar is the Learning Community for our students considering post-graduate education.

The PGRD Seminar will provide the information necessary to strengthen the student’s candidacy for successful application to graduate school, but also to ensure that this is the best path for the student. Panel discussions, guest speakers and presentations about trends in graduate study are all part of the program. The seminar will cover all aspects of pre-professional preparation, including the application process and writing skills. PGRD is as much about discernment as having the skills needed to be successful once accepted to a graduate program.

Graduate School Application Journal

While different graduate schools in different disciplines require varying information for application, there are some standard pieces of information that all schools need. With this in mind, the Pre-Graduate School Seminar provides students an online application journal where they can track the information that they will need in their application process.

Shadowing Opportunities

Observing a professional in their place of work is critical for a student to discern in the direction they take in their professional or graduate career. Through the PGRD program, students will have opportunities to shadow graduate students and faculty based on area of interest, helping students find their passion and assisting in building their application portfolio.

Mock Interviews and Workshops

Graduate school interviews are a critical part of the application process. Through the PGRD program, students learn interviewing techniques and can participate in feedback-driven mock interviews to prepare them for their graduate school interviews.

Professional Communication Seminar

Often the first contact that graduate schools have with a potential student is the written word. PGRD provides workshops for students to develop their personal statements and resumes for their applications to graduate school.

Guest Speakers

From current graduate students to graduate school admissions professionals and faculty, PGRD gives students the chance to hear from  a host of individuals that provide insight into the application process and what to expect in and out of graduate school.

EDGE Priorities

Pending the successful completion of all four semesters of the PGRD program, certain considerations will be in place when a student applies to the Creighton University Graduate School. These considerations change with each new class of students.
