Academic Success Centers

Academic Success Centers

Located in each freshman residence hall, Academic Success Centers are home base for Academic Success Peer Mentors, senior students dedicated to helping freshmen make a smooth transition to Creighton academics.

Academic Success Peer Mentors will:

Help you figure out which note-taking, self-quizzing, organization, and time management techniques work best for you and the courses you’re taking. From making flash-cards to creating a daily planner to reading a textbook, the Academic Success Peer Mentors have a lot of tips and tricks up their sleeves, and they’re committed to finding what works best for you!

Listen to you in one-on-one meetings. Sometimes not doing well in class isn’t really about the class or content—often, it’s about stress. If you are worried about making friends, just had a breakup, or are constantly thinking about tuition, it can help to get it off your chest with a person who most likely knows exactly what you’re experiencing.

Provide good customer service! Sometimes you just have to start out with an Academic Success Peer Mentor to figure out who you should really be talking to at Creighton. Meet with your Academic Success Peer Mentor even though you may end up elsewhere to officially get your answers (like the Creighton EDGE, the dean’s office, the registrar, etc.)! We’ll help get you there!

Know technology. Your Academic Success Peer Mentor can show you the basics of BlueLine, CreightonConnect, NEST, etc. Don’t be embarrassed to ask!

Give good guidance. Academic Success Peer Mentors know how to navigate college. They know how to prepare for quizzes, and how that’s different than preparing for exams. They know that homesickness doesn’t only happen in the beginning. And they know what a promissory note is, and how to sign up for classes, how to declare a major, and much more. And they took this position because they want to.
