Match Day is Friday. What is Match Day?

Match Day is an annual event, this year on March 18, when fourth-year medical students find out where they will be training for their residency and in what specialty. For this year’s Match Day, students will receive their residency assignments and share their excitement with their peers at ceremonies taking place simultaneously on Creighton University’s Omaha and Phoenix campuses.

In past years, students have been matched into multiple different specialty areas, including internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, general surgery, diagnostic radiology, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, anesthesiology, orthopedic surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, emergency medicine, urology, dermatology, otolaryngology, and ophthalmology.

Students also have matched into interventional radiology, pathology, pediatrics/psychiatry/child psychiatry, plastic surgery and urology.

St. Joseph’s Hospital and Valleywise Health are major partners in the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance, formed in 2018 to administer the residency and fellowship programs for its partnering organizations, with hopes of an increase in matches in the Phoenix area.

In addition to the Creighton University medical system, other prestigious programs that will provide homes for Creighton graduates include the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education, Northwestern, Penn, Rush, Emory, Vanderbilt, Stanford, UCSF, UCLA, UC-San Diego, George Washington University, Baylor, Mount Sinai and Harvard.

In 2021, Michael Kavan, PhD, associate dean for Student Affairs at Creighton University School of Medicine, said 100% of Creighton’s medical students matched to residency programs.

Watch the Match Day 2022 livestream on Friday, March 18, starting at 8:30 a.m. MST, 10:30 a.m. CDT.

The livestream combines ceremonies happening in the Ahmanson Ballroom in the Mike and Josie Harper Center in Omaha and in the Doris S. Norton Ballroom on the Creighton University Health Sciences Campus – Phoenix.
