Service Opportunity: The Furniture Project Looking for Local Volunteers

Creighton faculty and staff are invited to consider using their Volunteer Service Paid Time Off Benefit (up to 16 paid hours a year to volunteer) to serve with Omaha’s Furniture Project.

Opportunities are ongoing on various days of the week. This is a great opportunity for your department/ division in small groups, or as an individual. Sign-up online.

Volunteer Needs: The current greatest need is for consistent volunteers who are able to come weekly or every other week to help with a variety of tasks. Tasks include: warehouse assistance, folding linens, stocking shelves, cleaning furniture, processing donations and shopping with families. Volunteers can also sign up for shifts as it fits their schedule.

About The Furniture Project: Its mission is to provide assistance to those in need within our community. Its goal is to not only provide furniture but also inspire hope to show community members that their neighbors care about them.

The Furniture Project, 10808 J St. in Omaha, serves families in need of furniture and basic home furnishings via referral from Omaha-area social service agencies. The agency serves refugees, immigrants, survivors of domestic and other types of violence, those transitioning into permanent housing, people leaving the prison system, school systems, hospital systems and many more. The Furniture Project is currently collaborating with its partner agency, Restoring Dignity, to build up and operate an 18,000-square-foot warehouse in order to meet these needs in our community. Read more.
