5 Things to Know About Jamelle Bouie – #5

By Chino Betita, Creighton Law School Class of 2015

As the school year gets underway, the Law School gets many visitors, from lunchtime speakers to former alumni to even the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

On Thursday, October 9, at 4:00PM, Creighton’s 2040 Initiative is proud to present its own speaker, Slate‘s Jamelle Bouie.

Ironically, this was taken at a beach!

His presentation, “Talking About Race: A Conversation with Jamelle Bouie,” will touch on various topics related to issues facing millions of Americans.  He has written numerous articles about politics and public policy for publications such as Slate, The Daily Beast, and American Prospect, to name a few.

#5. Jamelle Bouie: Pop Culture
Having written so much about politics and public policy, you may think that that is where his primary interests lie. But if you take a visit to his personal website, you will find out that he blogs about a variety of things, and not all of them are politically related.

Whether it’s featuring the rise of the videogame industry, explaining why the average grocery rotisserie chicken is cheap, or dabbling in food photography, Jamelle Bouie is not afraid to mix in his own personal interests with his social commentary. He currently lives in Washington, D.C., and aside from food photos, he also takes advantage of his proximity to notable landmarks with shots like this.

And here we have a very...golden shot of the Lincoln Memorial.
