402 Service Program

Applications for Spring are now open. Apply here! Due January 31st.

This committed group of students will have the opportunity to serve as mentors and/or homework tutors for students at local schools or conversation partners for immigrant & refugee adults learning English. Participants are expected to demonstrate commitment to the mentor relationship and attend every week. Site options could change and new ones could still be added, but currently include:

Lutheran Family Services: Virtual tutoring of immigrant and refugee high school students attending Millard High School. Volunteers may be tutoring in English, Science, Math or other subjects. Choose between Tuesdays 4:30-6:45pm or Wednesdays 4:30-6:45.

-Completely KIDS: We are excited to partner with this local after school program to offer virtual reading buddies and mentorship on Mondays from 4:45-6:15 or Fridays from 4:45-6:15.

-Learning Community Center of South Omaha: Serve as a conversation partner with immigrant adults learning English. Participants must have availability for a morning or early afternoon class Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday and a reflection session with other Creighton LCCSO volunteers once a week. Reflection sessions offered Tuesday 5:00-6:15pm or Wednesday 5:00-6:15pm. Spanish is helpful but not required.

TeamMates: Mentor an elementary aged student over your lunch break. Participants will connect virtually with their mentee over the lunch break (any day of the week that works in your schedule) and will also gather with other Creighton TeamMates mentors to reflect on the experience together. TeamMates requires a two year commitment. This site accepts new volunteers during the Fall semester.

C.R.E.W. for Social Justice - Community. Reflection. Education. Weekly.

Sign ups for Spring are now available! Register here. Due February 11.

Participants in this six-week program commit to weekly formation, reflection, community building and learning together about criminal justice. Volunteers will also partner with RISE to provide virtual coaching on resumes and cover letters for builders (individuals who are incarcerated) as they prepare for re-entry into the community.  Graduate students, business students and anyone with strong resume skills are especially invited to participate, but anyone with an interest in learning and reflecting together is welcome. This program is virtual and Creighton community members from all our campuses are invited! Participants must be available Mondays from 6:30-8pm or Fridays 2:30-4pm.

Serve from Anywhere

Resurrection Catholic Missions is a Service & Justice Trip partner in Montgomery, Alabama. One of their programs is the Interfaith Community Outreach, an outreach initiative that serves a low-income elderly population of more than 100 clients annually. Members enrolled in this program are used to having people consistently visit, but due to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, they are no longer able to receive visitors. Resurrection reached out to see if members of the Creighton community would be willing to write and send letters to some of these seniors. Contact Mallory Murphy to learn more and get involved!

Additional Omaha Opportunities

As our community partners have reached out with service opportunities and needs during this pandemic, we have been posting them on our Local Community Partners web page. Members of the Creighton community can access the list here. Please remember whether serving virtually or in person and socially distant that members of the Creighton community are expected to maintain the Creighton COVID-19 Community Standards on and off campus.
