402 Service Program

Applications are now closed. Complete our survey to express interest for Spring 2021.

This committed group of students will have the opportunity to serve as mentors and/or homework tutors for students at local schools. Participants are expected to demonstrate commitment to the mentor relationship and attend every week. We are exploring doing virtual tutoring with Big Brothers-Big Sisters high school students, TeamMates elementary students over the lunch hour, homework tutoring with immigrant and refugee high school students, and possibly other sites.

Site options could change and new ones could still be added, but currently include:

Lutheran Family Services: Virtual tutoring of immigrant and refugee high school students attending Millard High School. This program will be offered Monday 4:00-6:15pm or Wednesday 4:00-6:15pm. Volunteers may be tutoring in English, Science, Math or other subjects.

Big Brothers Big Sisters- MentorU: Mentor high school youth enrolled in an academic enrichment class intended to keep students on track for graduation and success. Mentors will send messages weekly and participate in a monthly virtual meeting. The Creighton mentors will gather as a group weekly to learn, reflect and build community. Must be available Wednesdays from 5-6:30pm or Thursdays from 5-6:30pm. A one year commitment is required. Learn more here!

TeamMates: Mentor an elementary aged student over your lunch break. Participants will connect virtually with their mentee over the lunch break (any day of the week that works in your schedule) and will also gather with other Creighton TeamMates mentors to reflect on the experience together. TeamMates requires a two year commitment.

C.R.E.W. for Social Justice - Community. Reflection. Education. Weekly.

Sign ups are now closed. Complete our survey to get an invite for future sessions.

Participants in this seven-week program commit to weekly formation, reflection, community building and learning together about criminal justice. Volunteers will also partner with RISE to provide virtual coaching on resumes and cover letters for builders (individuals who are incarcerated) as they prepare for re-entry into the community.  Graduate students, business students and anyone with strong resume skills are especially invited to participate, but anyone with an interest in learning and reflecting together is welcome. This program is virtual and Creighton community members from all our campuses are invited! Participants must be available Mondays from 5-7pm or Fridays 2-4pm.

Serve from Anywhere

Resurrection Catholic Missions is a Service & Justice Trip partner in Montgomery, Alabama. One of their programs is the Interfaith Community Outreach, an outreach initiative that serves a low-income elderly population of more than 100 clients annually. Members enrolled in this program are used to having people consistently visit, but due to the novel coronavirus COVID-19, they are no longer able to receive visitors. Resurrection reached out to see if members of the Creighton community would be willing to write and send letters to some of these seniors. Contact Mallory Murphy to learn more and get involved!

Additional Omaha Opportunities

As our community partners have reached out with service opportunities and needs during this pandemic, we have been posting them on our Local Community Partners web page. Members of the Creighton community can access the list here. Please remember whether serving virtually or in person and socially distant that members of the Creighton community are expected to maintain the Creighton COVID-19 Community Standards on and off campus.
