Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Project Homeless Connect Omaha 2015! (Friday, March 27, 8:00am – 3:30pm for Volunteers. Guest intake will be from 8:30am – 2:00pm).
All volunteers must be 19 years old by March 27 (unless assisting with Set Up/Clean Up).
Creighton University encourages employees to participate as a volunteer for Project Homeless Connect Omaha. This year Creighton has approved staff and faculty to use excused paid time to volunteer at this event. It is important, however, to obtain prior approval from supervisors to ensure departments have the coverage necessary to conduct business.
Navigators are volunteers who will be matched with a homeless guest and will assist guests in filling out a basic in-take form and walking the guest through the social and medical services offered at the event. Navigators are not expected to be experts in the fields of social or medical services or provide counseling to guests; but are there to walk alongside the guest to ensure their needs are met. Your role will include building rapport with the guest, creating a comfortable environment, and ensuring guests dignity as they travel through the service stations. Navigators must be 19 years or older as of the event date.
Navigator volunteers can sign up for shifts in the morning, afternoon, or both. To help our guests receive the best services, all Navigators must attend one mandatory training. Sessions will be held Thursday, March 19 at 4:30pm; Monday, March 23 at 4:30pm; Tuesday, March 24 at noon in the Harper Auditorium. When you register you can select your training session.
We also need volunteers to help with Set Up and Clean Up! Set Up begins on Thursday evening from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Clean Up begins after the event on Friday afternoon.
Navigators and individuals who would like to help with either shift can register online. Volunteers ONLY signing up to help with Set Up or Clean Up must be 13 years or older the day of your shift. Volunteers between the ages of 13 and 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Questions about volunteering as a Navigator or helping with Set Up / Clean Up should be emailed to PHCO@creighton.edu.
