2018 PHCO Volunteer Registration

Volunteer Opportunities | PHCO 2018

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for PHCO! Last year, more than 500 guests were connected to services and over 1,000 volunteers participated in myriad roles as navigators, health providers/screeners, or on an implementation team. Most volunteers will serve as Navigators to guide guests through the process of accessing services. Health sciences volunteers with specialized education and licensure will provide health screenings through an interprofessional practice teaching model. Additional volunteers are needed for set-up, clean-up, registration, and food service.

The University encourages employees to volunteer for Project Homeless Connect Omaha. Creighton has approved staff to use excused paid time to participate in this event. It is important, however, to obtain prior approval from supervisors to ensure departments have the coverage necessary to conduct business.

Navigators are volunteers who partner with our guests as they access services throughout the day. We will need over 500 Navigators at this year’s event!

Navigators:

  • are matched with a guest
  • assist their guest in filling out basic forms
  • act as a resource on the logistics of the day
  • walk their guest through the community resources and health screenings offered at the event

Navigators are not expected to be experts in the fields of social/health services or provide counseling to guests. Rather, Navigators are there to ensure their guests’ needs are met throughout the day. Your role will include building rapport, creating a comfortable environment, and ensuring guests dignity as they travel through the various stations.

Training: Navigator training is an important part of the PHCO experience and is required for NEW Navigators. We are committed to creating a positive, productive, and safe environment for our guests and volunteers. We will make sure you have all of the information you need to contribute to that commitment. Click Registration and Information for NEW Navigators (below) for details.

Shifts: Navigators can volunteer for one of 2 shifts: AM shift or FULL shift. Shift start times differ for new and returning Navigators due to training requirements, so please click the appropriate link (below) for details!

Age Requirement: You must be 19 years old as of March 23, 2018 to volunteer as a Navigator. Current Creighton students are not required to meet the age requirement.
