All volunteers must be 19 years old by April 1, 2016 (unless assisting with set up/clean up).
Creighton University encourages employees to participate as volunteers for Project Homeless Connect Omaha. This year Creighton has approved staff and faculty to use excused paid time to volunteer at this event. It is important, however, to obtain prior approval from supervisors to ensure departments have the coverage necessary to conduct business.
Navigator volunteers will be matched with a guest to assist him or her in filling out a basic in-take form and in walking through the social and health services offered at the event. Navigators are not expected to be experts in the fields of social or health services or provide counseling to guests. Rather, Navigators are there to walk alongside the guest to ensure their needs are met. Your role will include building rapport with the guest, creating a comfortable environment, and ensuring guests dignity as they travel through the various stations. Navigators must be 19 years or older as of the event date.
Navigator volunteers can register for morning, mid-day, afternoon or all day shifts. See below for training information.

Navigator Training Information
Navigator training is an important part of the PHCO experience. We are committed to creating a positive, supportive, and comfortable environment for our guests and volunteers. During training, we’ll make sure you have all of the information you need to contribute to that commitment.
In order to respect your time, we’ve made some changes to the training requirements this year.
- Training is required for NEW navigators and is built into the beginning of each shift. You are not required to attend training outside of the time you registered for.
- We have eliminated the training requirement for most RETURNING navigators.
- We are offering an optional early-bird training on March 22nd for new navigators who are more comfortable with that setup. EARLY BIRD TRAINING IS NOT REQUIRED.
