Criminal Justice & Peace

In his 1967 encyclical Populorum Progressio, Pope Paul VI wrote, “Peace cannot be limited to a mere absence of war, the result of an ever precarious balance of forces. No, peace is something that is built up day after day, in the pursuit of an order intended by God, which implies a more perfect form of justice among men.” Scripture likewise calls us to “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14). The SCSJ seeks to put these teachings into action, recognizing that peace goes hand-in-hand with justice. We aim to advocate for those those individuals and populations that experience violence in all its forms.
