Hello! My name is Rebecca Bloom. This year, I will be a Junior majoring in English with an English Education Specialization and minoring in Globalization: Social and Cultural Issues. I love languages and learning about different cultures!! I am from Wheaton, IL, a suburb about forty-five minutes outside of Chicago. During the 2010-2011 school year, I was a member of the Cortina Community. This community shaped much of my life and my direction for future steps from helping me choose a major to opening my eyes to more of the world around me. Two of my passions are service and travel. In Omaha, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to volunteer with Pixan Ixim and absolutely loved all of the people there! This past summer, I traveled to the Dominican Republic to study how the church works in Latin America. I will be working with the core team this year to help plan our trip to the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice. This teach-in has been so impactful on how I view justice as I have learned more about injustices of our world. If you are ever looking for someone to chat with about life, justice, service, or other random things, come find me!

Hola! My name is Savanna and I am a senior at Creighton this year. I am majoring in Justice and Society and minoring in Spanish. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have had through Creighton and the CCSJ! Experiences like the Ignatian Family Teach in for Justice, Service Trips, weekly service sites, and the Encuentro Dominicano program have taught me how transformative and essential solidarity is. At the CCSJ, you will find a community that both loves and challenges you, so please stop by and check it out! Not only are our core values rock solid, but we have snacks. (There is no guarantee on the latter portion of that statement, though I kind of enjoy baking. I reallllly enjoy being outside, painting, and meeting friends for coffee). Please accompany us in discovering how we can use our talents, gifts, and passions to engage in the lives of others to work for justice. It is a really beautiful journey that you will never regret. :)

I am a senior (gulp) Atmospheric Sciences Major, minoring in Justice and Peace Studies. On campus, I’m spending my third year in the Cortina Community, returning as an RA for the new fourth floor. I’m really excited to see the program thriving and growing and hopeful (full of hope) for a continued embrace of a faith that does justice and a dedication to service and justice. In my free time, I’m an avid photographer, especially of weather; I storm chase regularly and regionally. I enjoy hiking, fishing, and campfire conversations, and welcome any opportunity to explore the many state parks near CU.
My involvement in the CCSJ has been a continuum during my later college career: I’ve gone on FBSTs to Rosebud, SD and El Paso, TX; I also led a trip to Detroit, MI last spring, and am leading another trip this fall. I’ve been to two IFTJs, at both Fort Benning, GA and in Washington DC. Outside of the the CCSJ, I’ve also been on pilgrimages to the Red Cloud Reservation and Pilsen, and recently spent nearly a month in the DR through Creighton learning about the role of the Church in integral development and working to build an aqueduct in the community of Los Bueyes. This year in the CCSJ, I am on the Core Team for the IFTJ, and excited to have a role in such a formative event, working alongside such fantastic people. Feel free stop by my room (McGloin 408). I love chats and gratuitously sugary and garishly colored soft drinks and would be happy to share both.
Namaste. I am excited to be back in the CCSJ for another year! In the formal classroom, I am a junior Justice and Society major with a minor in Christian Life Studies. Outside of formal education, I have learned a lot through my experiences in the CCSJ on Advocacy and Communications teams, service trips to Pilsen, Chicago and North Omaha as well as various other activities including IFTJ, ISN Leadership Summit, and weekly service at Kellom Elementary. I was also a member of the Cortina community during the 2010-2011 school years. The year I spent in the Cortina community has, by far, been the highlight of my Creighton experience and has been formative for me in countless ways. I will be on the Alumni Residence Council for Cortina this year and am excited to stay involved with such a fantastic program! Along with all of that, I am a Resident Advisor in Deglman Hall. I sound busy but it all magically works out really well. Aside from involvements, I have an optimistic, energy-filled personality with a lot to share. My mind and heart are open and I’m always up for an adventure. Please come visit us in the office anytime, we’d love to get to know you!
I am a sophomore from Overland Park, KS and I am majoring in both Medical Anthropology and Biology. My experience with Service and Justice started in high school when I went on an Immersion Trip to Nicaragua. At Creighton, I have been on Service & Justice Trips to El Paso, TX and South Omaha. Through the CCSJ I have also been involved in many activities, such as weekly service and the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice in Washington D.C. This year, I will be continuing as a CCSJ Student Coordinator and I will also be on Communications Team again. I will be on Core Team for the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice this November, which will again be held in Washington D.C. I am also a member of the Cortina Community this year and I am very much looking forward to it. Other than involvements, I like to travel, meet new people, referee soccer, and just have a good time. Find me on Google+ (If you don’t have Google+ let me know and I’ll send you an invite)!
I am a Senior Medical Anthropology major with minors in Spanish and Justice and Peace Studies. I am very excited to be a member of the CCSJ family and am looking forward to the opportunities this position will present to me. I am very passionate about promoting human dignity and advocating for those without the power or voice to advocate on behalf of themselves. I am a firm believer in the expression: “To whom much is given, much is expected,” and I strive to uphold this belief. I love spending time with my family and friends, smiling and laughing, saying “yes” to new opportunities, exploring the wonderful city of Omaha, and being in the outdoors, preferably sitting in the Jesuit gardens. I am really looking forward to this year and having the opportunity to meet new people, listen to new stories, and form new relationships with this position in the CCSJ!
Students who have attended the IFTJ/SOA Vigil and are interested in the overall leadership and coordination of the Creighton IFTJ/SOA trip, are eligble to be part of the Core Team of six students who organizes, plans, and facilitates the trip.
