Faith and Pizza: Humor and Religion

Held periodically throughout the semester, Faith and Food is a time for members of the Creighton community to come together over a free dinner to discuss and share ideas on featured topics in religion and spirituality. Not a debate forum, nor a formal class, these events give people the opportunity to listen to the wide range of views of current issues. The topic is Humor and Religion and this event will be at 6:00 pm in Lower St. John’s Church. For more information, contact Jennifer Kennedy-Croft.

Wednesday, December 4th
CU’s Empty Bowls Project

From it’s humble beginnings as a meal for the staff of one high school, Empty Bowls has spread across the United States and beyond and has raised tens of millions of dollars for anti-hunger organizations. Please join us for dinner, lunch or both at the Empty Bowls Event at the Creighton University Lied Art Gallery. When you purchase a beautiful handmade ceramic bowl for $10 you will enjoy delicious soup and bread. Creighton University ceramic students, faculty, staff, and many volunteers created each one-of-a-kind piece of pottery. CCSJ Student Worker, Katherine Osterman, and other staff members will have a selection of more than twenty bowls at the event. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Siena/Francis House of Omaha. Join us for dinner December 4th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and December 5th for lunch from 11:30 to 1:30 pm.

Thursday, December 5th
Advent Reconciliation Service

Are you looking to make Advent a prayerful preparation for Christmas? One way to do so is to come to an Advent Reconciliation service at St. John’s Church. The service includes song, Scripture, a reflection from a member of the Creighton University/Saint John’s Parish community, and the opportunity for individual reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This service will be at 7:30 pm in Saint John’s Church.

Friday, December 6th
Luncheon Presentation in the Asian World Center

Dr. Prafulla Raval and Dr. Vasant Raval, Creighton University, will give a short presentation and lead a discussion over lunch about the wisdom in their book “Finding Soul in Work and Life”. The book discusses four stages of transition titled Perceive, Pick-up, Prepare, and Proceed. A complimentary lunch and copy of their book will be provided. The event is free and open to the public and will be at 12:00 to 1:00 pm in the Asian World Center. Please plan to meet at “The Landing,” the table in the back of the Faculty Commons area. Please RSVP to Susan Thomas.

Upcoming Events:

Volunteer Opportunity: Bridge Church Mentoring Every Tuesday

Volunteers are tasked with consistent one-on-one interaction with kids in the neighborhood who are in great need of mentoring. The program is based in Christian values, giving college students of the Christian faith an opportunity to share their faith with young people in a very genuine way. They cannot have enough young adult mentors to provide personal attention to these children. The program runs from 6:15 to 8:15 pm every Tuesday night. The location is at the Bridge Church at approximately 31st and Lake St. If you are interested, please contact Alex Zimmerman.

Please Note:
Events to be included in the Weekly Update must be received by the Wednesday of the week prior to the event. All events should relate to service or justice and should include name, date, time, and a short description. The selection of events is limited by space and the discretion of the CCSJ.
