Sustainability: Retire North Omaha’s dirty coal plant!

Sierra Club Sierra Club
Omaha Public Power District’s (OPPD) 60-year-old North Omaha coal plant hasn’t been updated with modern equipment to reduce pollution. It is estimated to contribute to 14 premature deaths, 22 heart attacks, and 240 asthma attacks each year. The pollution from the coal-fired power plant contributes to repiratory illness, such as asthma, making hundreds of children sick.
Many people are significantly impacted. In fact, NAACP has even pointed to North Omaha Station as one of the nation’s worst environmental justice offenders. Call on OPPD to retire the North Omaha coal plant and to invest in clean energy alternatives!
